Penang trip chapter 3

March 2nd, 2007 by davefen
Chapter 3
On the way back to KL from penang, in the boring highway around Ipoh. Nothing interesting, only straight road and trees… almost 10.15PM, tired but well awake because of over portion of the very famous penang coffee in town, that cause us has to queue for nearly 45 min for that cup of coffee.
It started with the little conversation from one of my car mate. She told us she got the job from T college as a lecturer. It was a good news, she is young (25 yrs), smart and have a very pleasant personality, I am happy for her.
But it give me a very sad thought.
If I were malaysian…I should get the job too there..as they reject me becos of my visa arrangmenent…
and my further frustration lead to my past….
I got the job in S college, they confirm I can start on april, but then… problem… my degree not recognize by LAN and my master is still on the way to finish…. stuck!
Back to the past time of me…
I always studied in Govt school and a scholarship student. and when finished high school I have offered to pursue my study in Univ. Indonesia, english literature. Its such an honor that I can go in to that Uni without any long test like others.
But then my mom said… Jakarta is to far, Govt Uni is tough for chinese (at that time is a lot of unfair issue between chinese and local student), Accounting is a good major to take that lead u to have a succesful job.
Mother will always want the children to have the best, and am being a 17 years old naive teenager..want to feel how to study in the private school, with diffrent lifestyle and environment.
There was I in the private uni …. that I will never expect it caused me a trouble to look a job that I dream for now…
frustration feeling…
I wish I studied in Universiti Indonesia.. so it wont have a problem with LAN now…
regret? who to be blame? my mom?
I cant blame my mom, it is a guilty feeling when I want to blame her, she is such a wonderful mother. indeed a have a great job till before I left Indo to get married.
When I got married with my hubby, at that time I willing to sacrifice everything, even looking forward to be a good housewife (that I think I am)…
but after sometime I did not enjoy anymore spending my time sitting down alone at home.
I have an expectation beyond that..
He apologize to take my life in Indo with marrying me…
I cant blame him for that as he is a wonderful hubby and I would regret if I were not marrying him…
So who to be blame when I cant get a good job because am not local?
The authority, the rule? can I?
But afterall, If I given a chance I still dont want to be somebody else. I even cant imagine how my life if I be somebody else…
till now.. my family, my hubby, my friends, my study… keeps me grows up to be what I am today…
And something, someone, some situation that make me feel bad, it is not bad afterall… Because I know it make me to be a better person as I was…
My friend from far far away send me this note:
The traditional view of education bringing career success is obviously not sufficient for women who also choose to maintain their female roles as mother and wife. Women need education that:
[1] sharpens their existing maternal instincts
[2] equips them with strategic and tactical knowledge
[3] acknowledges their natural Machiavellic (achillies mom) tendencies
[4] limits their inevitable Diotimic sacrifices
[5] teaches them how to teach others the skills 1-4 above
[6] is recognized by others as a "valid" education.
So to be proud become a woman, and extra proud to be a mother and wife…:)

Bali trip 2

January 22nd, 2007 by davefen

On the Christmas day, we plan to go for fully shopping and explore Legian and Kuta street, I already know what I want to buy ha ha… this time no more home décor as we bought a lot in our previous Surabayatrips. And our apartment very much look like Indo traditional house already. But I determined to buy Balinese painting as our wall pretty much empty. In our living room only hang one small painting that we paint our self. Its an abstract painting that I even did not know how to describe>

We started to walk from Legian street, from the Body and Soul boutique till the painting shop we explore one by one. And we found out a Balinese flower painting, it was confusing to choose the best that match our living room wall, all the color look nice even most of it almost the same flower pattern. But I found out Balinese flower (Kamboja) is very exotic. After almost one hours on choosing, finally we decided to buy the three painting, its actually the same pattern and color but it will look good when I combine the three painting together become one rectangle shape contain three flower with brownish color (I will upload the picture in my photo album).

Happy with the painting, we continue our shopping along Legian and

Then we continue shopping to Uluwatu Balinese Lace. I like their product, actually the models is either lame or they only have 3 colors. They are white, black and beige. But the lace works is amazing. Very refine and elegant. It meant for Japanese or western tourist, but as a local having one or two blouse to pamper our self is nothing wrong right? I had two white tops, one is tank top and a blouse with the lace on top. Alamkulkul4

And after we finish our morning shopping, we met our friend for lunch, my friend is a Balinese, and nothing to beat trying local food when we visit new places or others places. They bring us lunch to “Babi guling (suckling pig)”. This suckling pig has a different style, it was very spicy and they put a lot of spices. Our Hubbies (my hubby and Ayu’s hubby) was getting crazy to compete who could eat more J. After that we went to the local wholesale shop in Denpasar for shopping local souvenirs. Because it is for local, so we also have a good price. We had bulk of Bali key chains, big size shorts for my hubby, T shirt for me, bead sandals for me and my friends and bead bag for my mom on law.

After the whole day shopping and we were exhausted already, It was the time to back to the Hotel and rest, Ayu and her hubby also stay in the same hotel with us for two days.

Around six o clock evening we went to Jimbaran for dinner. It is a seafood dinner on the beach. The whether was nice and windy. We had grill fish, prawn, lala, some veggie and rice. The way they grill is not using charcoal but they use coconut shell. So it can produce a very nice fragrance. It was a good food and compliment with fresh and sweet coconut water. And it was an enjoyable dinner, good food with good companion.Jimbaran

After dinner we went to Discovery Plaza, it is a huge mall and a lot café and pub compliment the mall, and the mall is on the beach site that you can smell the fresh beach air J

Kuta street, we went to Hard Rock Hotel mega store to buy some souvenirs. My hubby was getting mad in the store, he want to buy most of the little thing that they sell there. It were cute, but the price is neither cheap. In the end we had one HRH pillow case for huge pillow, key chains, phone chain and T shirt for my self.

Bali trip 1

January 17th, 2007 by davefen

Actually, I wrote the summary already how s my

Bali

trip overall. But due to the request from the other bloger (cieeeee..) then I will write more details what actually I ve been doing during my trip there (and of course necessary sensor for the activity that not suppose to exposed will remain private hahaha).

This trip is not a planning trip, knowing me, I always plan my trip very well, and doing the research about the hotel, place of interest, itinerary..ah btw Bali is in y country and been several times there but always amazed with this

Island

of

God

. We supposed only came back to my hometown (small lil town near Surabaya) for visiting my new born nephew and my family, then spend Christmas with my close friends in Surabaya. Thats why I booked the ticket for that destination too. However, when I checked with my close friends, she said she will go back to

Bali

(her hometown), then I was thinking, my Christmas will be extremely boring there, as the others also not in town. Make the story short, so I got a brilliant idea to fly from

Surabaya

to

Bali

and see her there. Then it s just happened, I manage to book the flight to Bali for three days two nite and back to Surabaya and from Surabaya fly to KL.. Yes tiring but exciting!

After did a short research, I found out Alam Kul kul boutique hotel and the price for peak season quiet reasonable. It is a small hotel that normally caters for Japanese tourist. Located in Kuta beach street in the other end. Not to near with the hustle bustle of Kuta town but also very convenience to go anywhere. The room is pleasant, its Balinese traditional contemporary style. It is a personal touch with a warm welcome note with your name mentioned. They give a complete set of traditional toiletries, Jasmine flavor.. oh and we have spacious bathroom that we can ehmm.. run around ha ha.. I like the colorful small tile that they fixed in the shower place and also the wood box compartment to keep the toiletries, also the kamboja flower for welcome touch :)

Well, after enjoying our room and hugging each other for a while :) we went out to seminyak for lunch in Made waroong, it was a Christmas time, they decorate the place with the Balinese style of Christmas décor (It is again contains kamboja flower, pine seed). They serve contemporary Indonesian dishes, e.g half mixed rice and gado2. But it is non halal food as the served pork. For information most of the local Balinese food is not halal, because their native food is “babi guling” – suckling pig.

So after we finish our late lunch, we went around to see the small shop and boutique that sell quite nice accessories and clothes. Seminyak is quieter than Legian for shopping, but they sell cheaper price over there. I got my shell necklace only for Rp.5000 (RM2) when in Legian and Kuta they sell about Rp.7500-10000 (RM 3-5). And knowing me I bought in a bulk in many different color and model. Its was drizzling when we were there, but it is very humid weather. So while shopping we also struggle with a humid weather, but after all it was pleasant.

After we finish walking in Seminyak area, we went back to Hotel for freshen up and join a Christmas eve dinner. It is a compulsory by the hotel management that we have to join the Christmas dinner and of course we have to pay for the dinner. It was a buffet dinner with Keroncong group sing a Christmas song. A bit lame but the foreigner like it. The dinner was typical Christmas dish, there were

Turkey

, lamb, assorted salad, etc. I had a glass of Hatten Bali Rose Wine and my hubby has a glass of beer, the buffet is not spectacular, but the hospitality is very warm. Most of the western tourist enjoy the keroncong song and dancing in the dance floor. And too emphasize the Christmas occasion, the hotel invited the orphanage choirs to do Christmas caroling and we all together sing “Silent Night’ with a stick of candle in our hand.

It was a nice Christmas eve that I spent with my hubby and others, but I feel guilty that I did not go to the mass at that night (that I usually do every year), I’d say a little prayer silently to my Jesus blessing for my love one, friends and family.

To be continue…

Hottie Christmas

December 27th, 2006 by davefen

back to work again for a week before new year break. And I am still in the holiday mood, even been away for hottie christmas holiday :)

Was back to my hometown to see my nephew and pass by Bali for Christmas celebration. It is a short visit but it still enjoyable as usually. We always love Bali, The Island of God, rich culture, happy people :)

But it was very very hot wheater during Christmas, so my hubby called hottie chirstmas.

We have a good food, good companion ( thanks for Ayu and Mendra to company us during our stay, even check in the same hotel he he).

Nice hotel ( see www.alamkulkul.com), nice massage, and of cos I have a wonderful time with my hubby. We both busy people, so we treasure our time being together, just us :)

And I am pretty satisfied with my Uluwatu shopping that cant find in malaysia also the bead accesories heaven….ah and my hubby falling in love with "ayam betutu" he he.. yummy!!

We have a lots memories to share in bali… but… our digital camera got stolen in the AIRPORT..and it is check in in our lugage..:(

Afterall, it is a lesson, anywhere in any cirtumtances in Indonesia still not safe. It was a shamed that inside people in airport, or immigaration still do the dirty work.

well.. afterall we still enjoy our holidays there, but just do not be complesant..:)

Happy new year..

time flies…

December 3rd, 2006 by davefen

Weekend kemaren waktu aku ama hubby makan malam di austrian resto, trus cerita2 how time flies so fast and tak terasa udah mau penghujung tahun,  udah kawin selama 2 tahun nih hahaha…

we have a habit every fisrt date of the month we will hunt for the small authentic resto with nice ambience and good food so can spend a good time with my hubby :)

btw we are looking forward our christmas vacation. This time will go back to Indon, to visit my family and my new born nephew, then will fly to Bali to spend the christmas eve there and just relax from the hustle bustle of our work for a while.

I need to make a reflextion for the whole year that I ve been done, what is the meaningful part and what is not so meaningful and need to get rid of it hahaha… for sure our marriage is so meaningful for me and my work is just getting nowhere and not what I want.

Sometime life is about up and down and about tasting salt and sugar… we learn how to stand and fall and stand again and let go certain things..:)

Car wash

November 2nd, 2006 by davefen

First thing when I had my new car, my hubby train me how to wash car in correct way. I admit his passion toward car make him to be the best car washer as well :)

Everytime we dont have time to wash the car and we need to send the car in the car wash, its always end up my hubby helping them …. wash car!!

First, he will start make a comment that the worker do not efficient and tire them, so he will start to tell them how to wash faster and cleaner, so they wont be tired, then end up he the one helping them wash car.

So everytime we pay them RM 8 for seeing my hubby do the tutorial and washing his self instead of using their service.

sigh!!

Raya Holiday

October 25th, 2006 by davefen

This is the first long holiday we spent in town, normally we always travel somewhere. Purposely we want to stay in town because we think we need a good rest. And indeed we have a good relaxing break. Woke up early, go breakfast, have outing with our dog, shopping, spring cleaning ( even not a spring :)) and of course makan and makan and now gaining more weight :(

Then its just so fast… now we have to work again. It is not soemthing that we really look forward  but its good we back to work and do routine activity again, so we more appreciate our day off..

Have a good day :)

A friend from somewhere far…

October 16th, 2006 by davefen

Udah lama pengen nulis blog tentang gue punya classmate. Di University Malaya, not many student from Indonesia, kebanyakan dari middle east, local malaysian, and some dari negeri bule buat pertukaran pelajar. My univeristy is the oldest Uni in … Malaysia? or may be ASEAN not sure…udah seratus tahun lebih usianya, tuir mana sama UI? :P

Karena uni punya gov dan kebetulan salah satu top 100 in the world, so student yang disana tuh modelnya rada2 serius gitu… nah class mate gue tuh juga rada2 serius pertamanya…tetapi pas udah kenal then semua keluar true colornya haha.. karena kebetulan lecturer gue orangnya sableng juga.. I like her very much.

trus lucunya gue nih punya temen sekelas cowo, pendiem, pinter tetapi lucu, he takes his Phd in Instructional technology, dan kebetulan ambil subject yang sama dgn gue. Kita sering discuss, and of course we communicate in English as the whole class talking in the same language, english.. sampe 3 bulanan deh, tiba2 temen sekelas gua yang lain ngomong wah disini ada 2 indon… trus gue confuse sapa satunya indon kok gue nggak tahu.. eh ternyata si Phd ituuu…. gile.. kok selama 3 bulan communication nggak tahu dia Indon, dan dia juga kagak tahu gue Indon, and we keep communicating in english… since then we talk in our bahasa kebangsaan hahaha…

Oh trus gue ada satu temen org Iran, she is a very lovely gal, gue banyak bertukar cerita sama dia. Suprisingly, ternyata lebaran tuh nggak dirayakan besar2 an disana, dan puasa tuh nggak wajib, dan dia nggak puasa tuh selama bulan puasa. Gue bener2 mendapat pengetahuan baru, karena selama ini gue mikir mereka tuh strict banget.. eh kok malahan kita kayaknya yg lebih strict.

Btw cerita tentang temen2 sekelas akan bersambung lagi hehehe…

Buka puasa bersama

October 16th, 2006 by davefen

Happy Raya then for those who celebrate the raya….
